Updating McAfee VirusScan

McAfee VirusScan may be updated using SuperDATs. A SuperDAT is a self-installing package containing updates to both the anti-virus “engine” and the anti-virus “signatures”.

SuperDATs are released every weekday (US time) and therefore available for download Tuesday to Saturday (Australian time). Each new SuperDAT contains every update that came before, so it is not necessary to download and install every package. Once a week is usually sufficient for most purposes.

  • Click Download.

    The web browser will prompt:

  • Choose Run (or Open).

The file will then be downloaded, which may take 20-30 minutes depending on your connection speed. When the download is finished, the SuperDAT package will start.

  • Follow the prompts:

The SuperDAT will perform the upgrades necessary and advise you when it is finished:

  • If you are prompted to reboot your computer, do so.
