What is the Internet?
The Internet is a worldwide network of computer networks. It is an interconnection of large and small networks around the globe.
The Internet began in the 1960’s as a computer network for the U.S. military and over time has grown into a global communication tool of many thousands of computer networks that share a common addressing scheme.
For most of its existence the Internet was primarily a research and academic network. Over the past 15 years, commercial enterprises and a vast number of consumers have come to recognise the Internet’s potential.
Today people and businesses around the world can use the Internet to retrieve information, communicate and conduct business globally, and access a vast array of services and resources on-line.
