Small Business Server 2003 Backup Fails

The backup function of Small Business Server 2003 may appeared as Failed. Upon clicking the View Log option you see:

Launching NTBackup: ntbackup.exe backup "@C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Backup\Small Business Backup Script.bks" /d "SBS Backup created on 07/31/2008 at 1:00 AM" /v:yes /r:no /rs:no /hc:off /m normal /j "Small Business Server Backup Job" /l:s /f "F:\Backup Files\Small Business Server Backup (02).bkf" /UM
NTBACKUP LOG FILE: C:\Documents and Settings\SBS Backup User\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows NT\NTBackup\data\backup08.log

The saved selection file "Script.bks" cannot be found.
The saved selection file "Script.bks" cannot be found.

NTBackup finished the backup with errors.

This may occur if a Recovery Storage Group has been added to Exchange 2003.

To resolve, use Notepad to open the backup script file referenced in the command-line from the log. For example, using the above you would open:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Windows Small Business Server\Backup\Small Business Backup Script.bks

Remove the following line from this file:

JET SERVER\Microsoft Information Store\Recovery Storage Group\

(where “SERVER” is the name of the server.)
