Resetting Password Policies When Leaving A Domain
If you have a domain-joined Windows-based computer, the domain may apply group policies. Microsoft Small Business Server, in particular, will apply various group policies, including some which relate to password complexity. However, when a computer is removed from the domain and switched back to workgroup mode, the policies remain, which means account passwords must match the policies of the domain, and this is not always appropriate for a workgroup system.
To reset the password policies, open the Local Security Policy applet, and navigate to Security Settings → Account Policies → Password Policy.
Set the following:
- Enforce password history: 0
- Minimum password length: 0
- Password must meet complexity requirements: Disabled
