Windows 8: Credentials Requested When Elevating

When attempting to elevate a process, Windows prompts for the username and password of an Administrator, despite the fact the currently-logged in user is a member of the Administrators group. In this circumstance, User Account Control should simply gain permission to elevate from the current user.

This may be resolved as follows:

  1. Open the Change User Account Control Settings applet.

  2. Change the slider to the lowest setting possible. Click OK and use some administrator credentials to accept the change.

  3. Log out and log back in.

  4. Open the Change User Account Control Settings applet.

  5. Change the slider back to the default setting.
