Error 0x80070057 Extracting ZIP File

When extracting a ZIP file you may receive the error: “An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem. Error 0x80070057: The parameter is incorrect.”

This may occur if the filenames in the ZIP contain invalid characters.

ZIP is a cross-platform format which means the “filename” supports characters which may be valid on one platform (Mac, Unix) but not others (say Windows). For example, colons (:) are valid in Mac OS X but not in Windows.

To extract, select Do this for all current items and click Skip. Windows will extract all the files and replace the invalid characters.
