Microsoft Snapshot Viewer

About Snapshots

Microsoft Access-based systems such as Cadzow 2000 can save reports in a special format called Snapshots (*.snp). Snapshot files perfectly reproduce the format and pagination of the original report without requiring access to the original application and can then be read and printed by anyone with the Microsoft Snapshot Viewer, which is a free download. Using Snapshot files is an excellent way to save time and money: instead of printing, photocopying, faxing and/or posting hardcopy reports, simply email the file.

If your recipient does not have Snapshot Viewer on their system, refer them to the Snapshot Viewer homepage (below).

Note that Cadzow 2000 does not require the Snapshot Viewer to create Snapshots.

Obtaining Microsoft Snapshot Viewer

Microsoft Snapshot Viewer is available as a standalone program and also included with Microsoft Office 2000, XP and 2003 (but not 2007 or later).

If you have installed a “Complete” install of Office 2000/XP/2003 then you already have the Snapshot Viewer. If you chose a “Typical” or “Custom” install, it may not be installed. Obtain your original Office CD, run Setup and add the Snapshot Viewer component.

However, if you have Office 2007 or later, or do not have access to the Office 2000/XP/2003 CD:

When installed, merge the following file with the local registry: DisableSnapshotActiveX.reg. This disables the use of the ActiveX control component of Snapshot Viewer which may have a security vulnerability which can be exploited via a web browser. Check here to test if the ActiveX control has been disabled.
