Windows: Desktop Icons Missing

Problem

The desktop shows no icons, however the contents of the desktop can be viewed by browsing to the Desktop folder in Windows Explorer.

Solution

This may be because the icons have been disabled. Right-click a blank area of the desktop, and choose View. Then choose Show Desktop Icons.
