Importing Messages into OS X Mail from Microsoft Outlook

Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac supports importing Personal Folder (.PST) files from Microsoft Outlook. However, if you don't have Outlook 2011, the following is one method to bring the messages across:

  1. Mount the PST as the default delivery location in a copy of Microsoft Outlook 2003 or better on Windows XP.

  2. Use Outlook Express 6.0 to import the messages.

  3. Install Mozilla Thunderbird and import the messages from Outlook Express.

  4. Transfer the Thunderbird profile folder to the Mac OSX system (via removable drive or optical media) and use Mail to import the messages.
