Internet Explorer: Disabling Secure/Non-Secure Prompt

When Internet Explorer displays a secure page (via https://) that contains a reference to non-secure content (via http://) it displays the following message: “Do you want to view only the webpage content that was delivered securely?”. The question is posed somewhat obliquely. Choosing “Yes” causes Internet Explorer to ignore the non-secure content, and choosing “No” causes it to be displayed.

Most frequently this message occurs when a secure site references some static content, such as an image, via plain text. Therefore it is quite safe to allow Internet Explorer to display it. However the presence of non-secure content in a secure page may indicate the website has been compromised, and allowing the non-secure content may execute malicious code by executing script from another site.

Therefore it is best to leave Internet Explorer in its default configuration, which is to always alert the user about a mixture of secure and non-secure on a website.

However if desired, the option can be turned off as follows:

1. In Internet Explorer, go to Tools → Internet Options.

2. Go to the Security tab, and choose Custom Level.

3. Navigate to the Miscellaneous heading, and set Display Mixed Content to Enable.
   

4. Click OK, then OK.
