Elevated Command Prompt

When logged in with local administrative privileges, Windows Vista and above nevertheless run all processes with the administrative privilege disabled. Processes which actually require true adminstrative permissions (such as installing programs) will prompt to elevate.

However the command prompt will always open as the logged-in user unless specifically elevated.

To open an “elevated” command prompt:

  1. Click Start:

    or or

  2. Type CMD in the search box and press Ctrl-Shift-Enter to invoke a command prompt in elevated mode:
