“We’re sorry, but we could not start your Office installation”

When installing an Office 2013 product, you may receive the following error message: “We're sorry, but we could not start your Office installation”.

This may happen if there is another edition of a Office 2013 product installed.

To resolve, try all or some of the following:

  • Open Services.msc and stop Microsoft Office ClickToRun Service;

  • Use Task Manager to end the IntegratedOffice.exe or OfficeClickTorun.exe processes.

If you have uninstalled Office 2013 and are attempting to reinstall:

  • Delete the following registry keys:

    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0

  • Delete the folder:

    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office 15

See also “Office can't do that right now” or “could not start your Office installation” error when installing Office 2013 or Office 365.

If you subsequently receive an error such as “We're sorry but Excel has run into an error that is preventing it from starting”, uninstall all Office 2013 programs, and reinstall the 64-bit editions.
